Kirkland’s President/CEO Resigns

Kirkland’s President, CEO and Director W. Michael Madden has resigned, effective immediately. Michael B. Cairnes, EVP and COO, was named Acting CEO while the home décor retailer’s board conducts a search for a permanent replacement. Madden will serve as an Employee-Advisor to the board until June 30, 2018.

Cairnes has been with Kirkland’s since November 2016, overseeing marketing, e-Commerce, merchandising, planning and allocation, store and supply chain operations. Cairnes was previously with Michael’s Stores, where he served concurrently as President of Aaron’s Brothers and President of Artistree.

Bed Bath & Beyond Acquires One Kings Lane, Spotlighting Flash Sales’ Struggles

1bbboklHome décor and goods retailer Bed Bath & Beyond has acquired e-Commerce home furnishing company One Kings Lane for an undisclosed, all-cash sum.

While the price tag of the transaction is unknown, Bed Bath & Beyond had $515 million in cash as of its most recent earnings report, signaling that the purchase is worth substantially less than the $912 million valuation of One Kings Lane in January 2014.

1EricGrosseIt’s an impressive résumé: Eric Grosse has been Co-Founder of Hotwire, President of Expedia Worldwide, CEO of TaskRabbit and now, CEO and Co-Founder of Chairish, an online, curated marketplace for vintage and used home furnishings.

Grosse was inspired to enter the home décor marketplace business by his fellow Co-Founders, Gregg and Anna Brockway. Gregg also was a fellow co-founder of Hotwire, while Anna previously was a Worldwide Vice President at Levi’s and hailed from a family of furniture and design executives.

Since its official launch in 2010, Pinterest has become a key social network for consumers to collect and share inspiration. Now garnering more than 72 million users, Pinterest has turned into a valuable social network for brands across product categories, allowing them to share aspirational content, engage customers and boost conversions.

For example, Dot & Bo, a guided furniture and home décor shopping service, has embraced Pinterest to share blogs and design ideas with customers. Since implementing Promoted Pins, the brand has quadrupled its total number of site visitors, improved daily clicks to the site by 18,000% and increased re-pins by 6,000%.

Bed Bath & Beyond Acquires Of A Kind

Bed Bath & Beyond has purchased independent e-Commerce fashion and home goods retailer Of a Kind for an undisclosed sum.

Of a Kind Co-Founders Claire Mazur and Erica Cerulo made the announcement via an email blast to their subscribers. In the note, Mazur and Cerulo indicated that Of a Kind will continue to operate as it has since the launch in 2010. Additionally, Of a Kind merchandise will not be sold in Bed Bath & Beyond stores.

Garnet Hill Opens First Pop-Up Shop In New York

Garnet Hill has opened its first physical store, a pop-up location, in Bridgehampton, N.Y., in an effort to give consumers an authentic touch-and-feel experience for its merchandise. Garnet Hill celebrated the opening on June 27 during a co-sponsored event with Hamptons Cottages & Gardens magazine and its Editor-in-Chief, Kendell Cronstrom.

The store will operate through Labor Day and will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. The store will feature Garnet Hill bedding and home décor lines, cashmere robes and a curated selection of sleepwear, apparel and other seasonal items.
