The much talked about marriage of marketing and merchandising functions in retail moved closer to reality this week with the announcement that DemandTec had agreed in principle to acquire Connect3 Systems.
The proposed union would bring together DemandTec’s suite of pricing and promotion SaaS solutions with Connect3’s advertising, merchandising, and promotions software, promising the first end-to-end promotion management solution for retailers and consumer products companies.

Retailers can make quicker ordering and merchandising decisions because they are receiving sales information up to a half day sooner from Theory, a New York-based apparel manufacturer and wholesaler. Using the SkyPAD Software as a Service (SaaS) dashboard, Theory is able to more quickly and efficiently analyze sales performance at the store level.

In calculating the brand valuations of top retailers, Interbrand Design Forum’s recently found that 47 of the 50 brand leaders measured in the survey were cross-channel retailers. WalMart ran away from the field with a brand value of $129 billion, followed by Best Buy at $21 billion and Home Depot at $20 billion.

Mobile applications continuing to gain momentum in the retail sector as Sephora and Intuit recently debuted MobileVoice, a product review application from BazaarVoice specially designed to allow customers to access reviews at hosted mobile websites via product categories, keyword search and product pages. The new application will also provide mobile-specific analytics to retailers and suppliers.
